The fact is people want to do business with people they can relate to, and the most powerful way to relate to others outside of an in-person meeting is by video. You probably already know that video is a powerful and highly shareable way to connect with people, but making a video can be expensive and intimidating. The thing is, it doesn’t have to be. You need to get started, and you’ll get better over time. Your first videos don’t have to be perfect. In fact, your lack of production value might actually make your videos more engaging to some people because you will seem like a real, relatable person. And being relatable is key–because when it comes right down to it business is about relationships. There are many different ways to use video for your business, and the best way to get started is simply to experiment and see what works best for you and your audience. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

In this post, I will give you a few ideas about videos you can make right now with just your phone to promote your business. But first, I want to give you some tips to keep in mind when making videos to promote your business.

Tips:

Just start.

It sounds too easy, but in reality, it’s not really. Getting started is often the most difficult part when doing something new. But if you’re reading this, you have probably already started a business, so you already know this all too well.

Use what you have.

You don’t need a fancy set or camera or even lights. You probably already have the gear you need to start in your pocket: your phone. Of course, there are some basic things to remember when shooting videos of yourself for yourself. But that's a different topic I will cover in another article.

Experiment

Try different settings, different scripts, different jokes, or whatever. Also, experimentation is practice. Learning what kind of videos work best for your business. Just make sure to keep it appropriate for the kind of business you are in. For example, if you are an attorney, making prank TikToks probably wouldn’t be a great idea.

Plan

Write a little script for your video. It doesn’t have to be complicated. It can just be a list of bullet points related to the video topic that you want to ensure is covered in your video. Even a simple plan is better than just winging it.

Focus:

While a video for your business is more than likely to be about your business, of course, make sure the focus is on your customer. Think about what your customer is looking for and address those things. Give your potential customers something of value that they can think about.

OK, with those tips out of the way, here are a few ideas for videos you can make to promote your business right now
